What season is BEST for your senior or college grad photoshoot? {Jacksonville and St. Augustine portrait photographer}
Sometimes it can be easier to pick outfits for the spring/summer months than it is in the cooler fall/winter months. I also have some seniors who want to have a separate session during BOTH times of year to capture the different looks and styles that a new season brings along. So, I’m going to help you break down how to prep your outfits according to the time of year that we are capturing your portraits!
Another important thing to keep in mind about the time of year is the SUNSET. In the summer months, shoots won't start until 5 or 6pm... but we will need to start much earlier (2-3pm) in the winter months to accommodate the earlier sunset and because of that it’s harder to schedule the photoshoot during weekdays since most seniors will be in school until 4PMish.
SPRING
My personal FAVORITE time of year for portraits...It’s not too cold or too hot and all of the flowers are in bloom! Some people feel like they need to shy away from color so they don't clash with the blooming flowers...but I disagree! A bright pink against a white floral bush is a DREAM...try coordinating with the colors + add in pastels! Also - mild weather in allows for a range of outfit choices, from light sweaters to sundresses, letting you showcase different styles.
PRO tip! The spring sunlight in Northeast Florida is softer and more diffused compared to the harsh summer sun, providing the perfect natural lighting for flattering, warm, and radiant portraits.
WINTER
You may automatically think winter is a bad time for pictures...but it doesn't have to be! You can brighten up any dull background with bright colors, fun textures and lots of layers (and I’m totally obsessed with layers!!!)! Fun jackets, sweaters, hats, scarves, boots, gloves and even earmuffs all can photograph SO cute!
PRO tip! Popular photoshoot spots like parks, beaches, and urban areas are way less crowded during the winter months, allowing for more privacy and flexibility in choosing the best locations and angles for your senior or college grad photoshoot.
SUMMER
With our beautiful beaches, summer is perfect for a coastal-themed shoot. The sand, sea, and sunset make for iconic and picturesque senior photo settings. Sometimes you even get lucky and get the most dramatic stormy sky in the distance and it literally makes your images so cool!
There are a few downsides of summer portraits in the South - HEAT and RAIN. Wearing layers in summer isn’t much of an option since it’s just unbearably hot! And since it’s rainy season you have to be flexible- rescheduling is common due to afternoon downpours!
PRO tip! The good thing about summer is that you can either go bold and wear super bright colors or go all blush tones and either way it looks so perfect due to the fact that the nature around you is all pretty and vibrant!
FALL
This is my second FAVORITE time of year to shoot! I love the cooler temperatures that actually make it enjoyable for you to be out there. Bonus - your makeup stays on throughout the entire shoot and hair looks amazing until the end! What’s there not to love?!
The soft fall color palette, and incorporating layers into your outfits opens up a whole new set of options for posing. Cute booties, scarves, jackets, cozy cardigans, hats...I'm here for ALL of it!
PRO tip! Fall is literally the busiest time of the year for photographers so make sure to book your session well ahead of time so that you will get your preferred date in the calendar before everyone else books it! Like minimum 2-3 months ahead!
Living in Northeast Florida we get fantastic weather and stunning natural scenery year-round, making any season perfect for a high school senior or college grad photoshoot. So no matter what season you prefer - I will guarantee that you will absolutely love each and every one of your images! So what are you waiting for?! Let’s connect and talk pictures!
